Throwback to 1998, the first-ever Winnipeg Punk logo, created with some clunky program on Windows 95 (using a computer at the Transcona Library). Hard to believe it’s nearly 30 years old.
Between 1997 and 1999, most of us were just getting our first computers and discovering the internet. It was a game-changer for the music scene, opening up new ways to connect and share local events.
Before those days, promoting shows meant hitting the streets with a backpack full of posters, spending hours with friends plastering every pole and bus shack downtown or handing out flyers. Those were fun times! Also spread the word with homemade zines, free ads in local papers, radio, and magazines like Stylus. It was all DIY, all heart.
Lots of good memories.
